EPK vs PDF: the file that is already outdated
An online EPK beats a PDF because it lives at one stable address that is always up to date. The promoter bookmarks the link, plays your mix on the page and reaches you through the contacts on it. A PDF is stale the next day, gets lost in email threads and never shows who opened it.
The PDF you sent yesterday is already stale today. New mix, new photos, new rider — and the booker still has the old attachment in their inbox.
Promoters do not “keep” your PDF
Attachments vanish between threads. Drive links ask for permission. WhatsApp folders have no URL a booker can reopen three weeks later.
An online EPK has a stable address: epk.social/yourname. The promoter bookmarks it. You update the page; they see the right version without asking for the file again.
What a link does that a PDF cannot
Embeds play on the page. A featured video and Instagram sit in the same scroll. Booking arrives organised — not mixed with DM spam.
A PDF is static. It does not show who opened it, it does not translate the bio, it does not update the rider the night before the gig. The public EPK on EPK Social does that on Free; Pro adds operations — requests, promoters and calendar.
When a file still makes sense
If a festival asks for a specific PDF, generate it from the kit — not the other way around. Your canonical should be the page. The attachment is a snapshot, not the source of truth.
Switch in 5 minutes
- Publish the EPK with bio, photos and mixes
- Paste the rider as text (extra PDF is optional)
- Add your booking email and WhatsApp to contacts
- Send the URL instead of the attachment
- Update once — everyone sees the new version
Leave the PDF in the archive. Booking happens on the link.
Frequently asked questions
Is a PDF press kit still worth having?
Only as a copy for people who ask for a file. Your main version should be the link, because it is the only one that stays up to date.
Can promoters play my mix on an online EPK?
Yes. SoundCloud, Spotify and YouTube mixes play right on the page, with nothing to download.
Can I see who opened my EPK?
On the Pro plan you see visits and clicks on your EPK. A PDF sent by email shows none of that.
