How to send promos without the track leaking before release
To send a promo with less risk of a leak, give each person a different copy with a private link and a download limit, instead of one shared file. If the track shows up where it shouldn't, you can tell which copy it came from and cut off whoever passed it on.
A track that leaks before release loses its impact, and with a shared link there's no way to know who passed it on.
The problem with a shared link
A Drive folder or WeTransfer link sent to twenty people is the same file for everyone. If it turns up in a group chat or on a download site, there's no way to tell where it came from.
Shared links also stay live forever and get forwarded. People who weren't on your list end up with the track.
Individual copies and private links
Send one copy per person, each with its own link. Limit downloads and set an expiry date close to the release.
An inaudible audio mark in each copy lets you identify the source of a leaked file without hurting quality for anyone who plays it.
If the track leaks
Keep the file you found, check which copy it came from and revoke that person's access. Talk to them before going public: leaks often come from someone who forwarded it without thinking.
